ECoR sets up Special Task Force to ensure hygiene and cleanliness in stations

Bhubaneswar, Apr 3 (UNI) As part of ongoing efforts to curb littering and spitting, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has set up a Special Task Force to enforce cleanliness regulations and raise awareness among passengers.
This initiative is part of a sustained effort to enhance cleanliness and maintain hygiene across railway premises.
The Task Force collaborates with Station Managers, Ticket Collectors, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and officials from the Commercial and Operating Departments.
In addition to active monitoring, a special campaign has been launched to educate passengers and rail users about the importance of maintaining cleanliness at railway stations and on trains.
The campaign includes public announcements, the distribution of posters and banners, and outreach through various media channels.
In line with new directives, railway staff are authorized to issue fines to individuals found engaging in activities that violate cleanliness norms, such as spitting, littering, cooking, bathing, urinating, or defecating in railway premises or compartments.
ECoR sources stated that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Bhubaneswar Railway Station has collected Rs.1,17,100 fine from 581 individuals for spitting and littering during March 2025.
East Coast Railway’s strict vigilance extends across all stations within its jurisdiction, with station management responsible for ensuring cleanliness and enforcing penalties for violations.
Passengers and rail users are reminded to dispose of waste in designated dustbins and to use the toilets and washrooms provided at specified locations.
