Foundation course for Military Engineer Services officers concludes at Dr MCR HRD Institute

Hyderabad, Apr 12 (UNI) The 14-week Foundation Course for 55 Military Engineer Services (MES) Officers, sponsored by the College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune, and conducted by Dr MCR HRD Institute of Telangana, concluded on Saturday.

Shashank Goel, Director General of the Institute and Special Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana, who graced the valedictory session as the Chief Guest, highlighted the evolving role of MES officers in national defence. “Your responsibilities extend beyond traditional engineering tasks. You are expected to be agents of change—driving innovation and applying managerial acumen to ensure the nation’s defense infrastructure remains robust and future-ready,” he remarked.

Goel underscored the officers’ key role in designing, constructing, and maintaining complex infrastructure projects—ranging from bridges and roads to buildings—serving the Indian Army, Air Force, Navy, DRDO, Ordnance Factories, and Coast Guard. He emphasised the importance of integrity, fairness, and accountability in professional conduct.

He also noted that the Foundation Course extended far beyond classroom learning, encompassing village and urban local body (ULB) visits, a trek to the Nilgiris, sports meets, cultural programmes, and various co- and extra-curricular activities. “These experiences offered officers a holistic view of real-world challenges,” he said.

Special Guest Thota Srinivas Dev, IDSE, Chief Engineer (NFU), Director (Personnel & Legal), R&D, Secunderabad, observed that the operational landscape of MES officers is evolving rapidly. “To stay effective and meet new-age demands, officers must consciously update and refine their skill sets,” he urged.

Guest of Honour, Pankaj Yadav, IDSE, Course Director, CME Pune, noted the rapid evolution of technologies and administrative processes. He encouraged MES officers to collaborate with colleagues at all levels to effectively plan and execute projects in this dynamic environment.

On this occasion, Deepa, LS, IDSE (E/M), was awarded a shield for Best All-Round Performance. Course completion certificates, trophies, and medals were also presented to the participants and winners of various competitions.

Usha Rani, Course Director and Head, CDS, welcomed the gathering and delivered a comprehensive report on the Foundation Course, a statement said.
