Heroin and meth seized in multiple operations across Mizoram; five arrested

Aizawl, June 20 (UNI) The Mizoram Excise & Narcotics Department has seized large quantities of heroin and methamphetamine in four separate operations over the past two days, arresting a total of seven individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.
According to Peter Zohmingthanga, spokesperson of the Excise & Narcotics Department, the most recent operation took place at 3:30 pm on June 19 (Thursday) at Phainuam, Saihapui ‘K’ Road in Kolasib district.
Officials recovered 2.502 kg of heroin, hidden in approximately 220 soap cases from Lalramtiam (30) of Tahan ‘F’ Group, Myanmar, and Lalremruata (34), of Zemabawk, Aizawl. The consignment was allegedly meant for sale outside Mizoram.
In a joint operation with 20 Assam Rifles, the department also seized 3.477 kg of methamphetamine (equivalent to 36,400 tablets) at 4:50 pm on the same day at Pukpui village, Lunglei district. Two suspects—Sapna Chakma (40) of Tiperaghat II, Lunglei district, and Punyo Sur Chakma (29) of Kamalagar II, Lawngtlai district—were arrested.
Earlier that evening, at 5 pm, 222.1 grams of heroin were seized at Zokhawthar, an Indo-Myanmar border town in Champhai district. Two Myanmar nationals — Zokhumi (65) and Lalnunsiami (37) of Khawmawi village—were apprehended in connection with the seizure.
In a separate case, at 11:55 am on June 20, Excise officials intercepted 418.4 grams of heroin (about 43 soap cases) at Tuipui on Khawzawl Road, and arrested Rebecca Nianglunchingi (28), daughter of the late Kapsialkhama, a resident of Champhai Vengthar.
“All the accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and were produced before the court on June 20,” Zohmingthanga added. UNI ZS SSP
