Himachal: Civil Defence mock drill on May 7

Shimla, May 6 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) has scheduled a crucial meeting of the Advisory Committee on Civil Defence to prepare for a state-level mock drill on May seven.
The meeting, which would be conducted in a hybrid mode (online and offline), will be held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to the Government of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
The meeting aims to ensure effective coordination among departments and agencies involved in disaster preparedness and response.
According to an official notification issued by the Additional Director General-cum-Commandant General of Home Guards, Civil Defence, Fire Services and SDRF, all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) are to participate.
DC and SP Shimla will attend in person, while their counterparts in other districts will join via a video link.
Key departments and agencies involved include the Director General of Police, Engineers-in-Chief of PWD and Jal Shakti, Directors of Energy, Health, Food & Civil Supplies, GM BSNL, representatives of Jio and Airtel, All India Radio, Doordarshan, ARTRAC and the Chief Fire Officer, among others.
The notification underscores the importance of the mock drill in strengthening disaster readiness and has requested all officials to attend along with relevant officers.
The exercise is expected to enhance inter-agency coordination and community awareness in managing natural and man-made emergencies across the state.

Srinagar, May 6 (UNI) The Group of Concerned Citizens(GCC) J&K on Tuesday demanded a fast-track investigation and trial to secure justice for the nomad woman who was criminally assaulted and murdered on Srinagar outskirts on Sunday evening.
Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested four accused who allegedly were involved in criminal assault on a nomadic woman while she was grazing goats at Nishat . The woman suffered grievous injuries in the assault and died later.
