HP Congress puts off April 26 rally post-Pahalgam attack

Shimla, April 24 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) has postponed its April 26 ‘Save the Constitution’ (Samvidhan Bachao) rally in Shimla, citing the recent terrorist attack in J&K's Pahalgam.
According to an official circular from HPCC, the decision was taken in view of the tragic circumstances and as a mark of respect for the innocent lives lost. State Congress president and former MP Pratibha Singh said the move reflects solidarity with the victims of the attack.
The rally was part of a nationwide Congress campaign aimed at protesting against the alleged misuse of institutions such as the Election Commission, Raj Bhavan, and Central investigative agencies. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, AICC in-charge Rajani Patil, cabinet ministers, and MLAs were expected to join the protest, starting from Ambedkar Chowk in Chauramaidan.
The AICC had recently held a strategy meeting in Shimla to plan the campaign. Rajani Patil was scheduled to arrive on April 25 to attend the event.
The Congress has been vocal against the BJP-led Centre, accusing it of targeting opposition leaders through agencies like the ED, particularly in the National Herald case.
