In landmark haul, EB CID seizes 1806 lts of spurious liauor

Chennai, May 10 (UNI) In a landmark seizure, the Enforcement Bureau, CID (EB-CID)
has seized 1,806 litres of spurious liquor smuggled into Tamil Nadu in Villuppuram
district on Friday.
An official release said upon inspection of an intercepted truck, the authorities found
209 boxes, containing 10,032 bottles (1806 litres) of spurious liquor and seized them.
This operation marks yet another milestone in the department’s ongoing
mission to dismantle smuggling networks and curb the unlawful transportation of
spurious liquor across state borders.
The EB CID plays a crucial role in enforcing the Prohibition Laws by actively cracking
down on the illegal manufacture, sale, and smuggling of illicit liquor, spurious liquor,
Rectified Spirit (RS), and non-duty-paid liquor from other states.
It remains vigilant in identifying and dismantling organized networks engaged in the
smuggling of RS, Spurious liquor and non duty paid liquor, ensuring strict enforcement
against these unlawful activities.
Through continuous raids, surveillance, and intelligence-driven operations, enforcement
teams have successfully intercepted large consignments of spurious liquor and thereby
preventing distribution of illicit liquor.
The agency in the recent past had achieved significant breakthroughs in dismantling
smuggling of spurious liquor in Chennai, Villupuram, Vellore and Coimbatore.
Through meticulous intelligence gathering and swift action, multiple offenders involved
in the smuggling of Rectified Spirit and sale of spurious liquor were identified,
apprehended, and illegal stock seized.
In a continued effort to crack down on interstate liquor smuggling, the Villupuram Central
Intelligence Unit (CIU) lead by the Inspector of Police, intercepted an Eicher Truck near
Poothurai Police check post, in the district.
Upon inspection, 209 boxes, containing 10032 bottles (1806 litres) of spurious liquor was
seized.
This operation marks yet another milestone in the department’s ongoing
mission to dismantle smuggling networks and curb the unlawful transportation of
spurious liquor across state borders. Interrogation made so far reveals that the
spurious liquor bottles were smuggled from Pondicherry to Chennai for selling in
Chennai and Tiruvallur districts.
The main accused is a previous offender from Pondicherry. They have used one
TATA Indigo car as a pilot vehicle. Both the vehicles with contraband were seized.
The department remains committed to strict enforcement and surveillance to
prevent such illicit liquor, it said.
