J&K ACB traps, arrests cop, his driver for demanding, accepting bribe

Jammu, May 3 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau on Saturday trapped and arrested a police personnel and his driver in a bribery case.
The ACB spokesman said that they received a complaint alleging that a public servant, namely PSI Murtaza Rehman, Incharge PP GMC Jammu, and his driver and SPO, namely Himanshu Sharma, had demanded illegal gratification for running Rehari at the exit gate of GMC Jammu from the complainant.
The accused had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for running Rehari.
Since the complainant didn’t want to pay a bribe, he approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take legal action against the accused public servant under the law.
On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand of a bribe by the public servant concerned, and accordingly, a case was registered in Police Station ACB Jammu, and an investigation was taken up.
During the course of the investigation, a trap team headed by a gazetted rank officer was constituted.
The team laid a successful trap, and accused public servant PSI Murtaza Rehman and his driver SPO Himanshu Sharma were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 13,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due process of law.
The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team.
Moreover, searches are being conducted in the residential houses of both the accused in the presence of independent witnesses and magistrates.
Further investigation of the instant case is going on.
