Jitendra Singh inaugurates CSIR Startup Conclave 2025 in Hyderabad, highlights India's innovation surge

Hyderabad, Apr 22 (UNI) The CSIR Startup Conclave 2025 commenced on Tuesday with a grand inauguration by Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, at the Zaheer Memorial School Grounds, CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad.
The two-day conclave, themed “Catalysing Innovation, Connecting Ecosystems,” is jointly organised by CSIR-IICT, CSIR-CCMB, and CSIR-NGRI to foster entrepreneurship and innovation in India’s research and technology landscape.
Dr Jitendra Singh, also the Vice-President of CSIR, emphasised India’s transformation over the last decade into a thriving hub for startups and innovation.
“From just 50 startups in 2014, we have grown to nearly 10,000 today,” he said, lauding initiatives like the Aroma Mission in Jammu & Kashmir, which has empowered over 3,000 young entrepreneurs. “The government is open to broader integration and is forthcoming in supporting innovation,” he added.
The Minister underscored the role of CSIR technologies such as Pheromone Application Technology by CSIR-IICT and the Purple Revolution in J&K as transformative forces in India's agri-tech and startup ecosystem.
Praising Hyderabad's vibrant innovation landscape, Dr Singh called it the ideal city to host such a conclave, given its strong presence in pharma, biotech, IT, and deep-tech startups.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and technology transfers were signed between companies and the host CSIR institutions during the event.
Dr Srinivasa Reddy, Director, CSIR-IICT, said, “This conclave reflects the path India must take—where research fuels entrepreneurship and startups, in turn, fuel further research.”
Dr Vinay Nandicoori, Director of CSIR-CCMB, highlighted the growing synergy between industry and academia in Hyderabad, while Dr. Prakash Kumar of CSIR-NGRI pointed to emerging opportunities in hazard mitigation, geothermal energy, AI/ML, and groundwater exploration.
The conclave featured compelling startup stories from industry leaders such as Shivani Rai (GreenworksBio), Suresh Susurla (Startoon Labs), and Dr. C.S.V. Kiran (Skyroot Aerospace), among others.
In a guest address, MP Eatala Rajender praised the central government’s support for startups and its global vision for India. He remarked that Hyderabad’s scientific ecosystem, combined with government initiatives, provides a strategic edge for budding entrepreneurs.
An exhibition pavilion showcased cutting-edge technologies and startups incubated at CSIR labs, which Dr Singh personally visited and engaged with. The exhibition will remain open on April 23.
The conclave drew participation from over a thousand attendees, including dignitaries like MLA Bandari Laxma Reddy, industry leaders, investors, researchers, and aspiring entrepreneurs — a testament to the growing momentum of India's startup revolution.
