Karnataka sizzles as Ainapur hobli records 42.8°C

Bengaluru, Mar 15 (UNI) Ainapur hobli in Kalaburagi district recorded the highest maximum temperature in Karnataka at 42.8°C during the past 24 hours.
Many places in Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Yadgir, and Vijayapura districts, along with a few places in Bagalkote and Belagavi districts, and isolated locations in Tumakuru, Ballari, Gadag, Koppala, Uttara Kannada, Vijayanagara, Chikkaballapura, and Mysuru districts, recorded maximum temperatures of 40°C and above.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), as many as 17 locations in Kalaburagi district, 13 locations each in Bidar and Raichur districts, 10 locations in Vijayapura district, and 8 locations in Yadgir district recorded maximum temperatures of 40°C and above.
Similar temperatures were observed at 6 locations each in Bagalkote and Belagavi districts, 3 locations in Tumakuru district, 2 locations each in Ballari, Gadag, Koppala, Uttara Kannada, and Vijayanagara districts, and one location each in Chikkaballapura and Mysuru districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that maximum temperatures yesterday were significantly above normal in some areas. In isolated places over North Interior Karnataka, temperatures were higher than usual by 3.1°C to 5.0°C.
A few locations in North and South Interior Karnataka, as well as in Coastal Karnataka, recorded temperatures above normal by 1.6°C to 3.0°C. However, in other parts of the State, temperatures remained near normal, fluctuating within a range of -1.5°C to 1.5°C.
The IMD forecast indicates that maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 2-4°C from March 15 to 17 over North Interior Karnataka.
Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of North Interior Karnataka on 18 and 19 March. Over South Interior Karnataka, no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected in the next 24 hours, but a gradual rise of 2-3°C is anticipated in the subsequent days.
