Maha: 17 booked for paddy procurement scam in Gadchiroli, 5 held

Gadchiroli, May 12 (UNI) Police have registered a case against 17 people, including directors and secretary of a procurement centre at Deulgaon in the district in connection with an alleged scam involving 10,000 quintals paddy.
Of them, five people were arrested so far including procurement centre (Maha Mandal) president Patiram Kokode, vice president Pandhari Dadgaye, and board members Bhaurao Kawadkar, Nusaram Kokode and Bhimrao Shende.
However, the main accused in the scam, Deputy Regional manager Muralidhar Bavane and the Centre manager Mahendra Meshram, are still absconding, police said on Monday.
The case was registered after 10,000 quintals paddy procured in the years 2023-24 and 2024-25 was found at the Deulgaon procurement centre in the district.
The Kurkheda police have registered a case under sections 316(5), 318(4), 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code against a total of 17 people, police said.
After registration of the case, five accused were arrested, creating a stir in both the political and social sectors.
Gadchiroli district collector Avishant Panda has taken a serious note of the matter and directed to take action against the accused, sources added.
