Maha Congress chief Sapkal demands Agriculture Minister Kokate be expelled for 'insulting farmers'

Mumbai, Apr 5 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Harshvardhan Sapkal demanded on Saturday that state Agriculture Minister Adv Manikrao Kokate be expelled from the cabinet for "insulting farmers" and should tender a public apology.
Sapkal said the 'Baliraja' (farmer) is the breadwinner of the world, but the BJP coalition government in Maharashtra does not miss a single opportunity to insult them.
He alleged that State Agriculture Minister Kokate has become so enamored with power that he is constantly insulting farmers. "After calling farmers beggars, now this gentleman has insulted them once again by asking strange questions like 'what do you do with loan waivers, do you get married, get engaged, invest in agriculture'."
Sapkal said the Mahayuti government, which had promised to waive off farmers' loans after coming to power, has not yet fulfilled its promise. "The government says there is no money for loan waiver, in which the Agriculture Minister's question to farmers on loan waiver is like 'a thief is a thief and a bully from above'."
"When the government helps farmers or waives off loans, it is not doing them any favors. It is the people's money, not Kokate's family's. If the government's policies were favorable to agriculture and farmers, then why would farmers depend on government help? But the BJP coalition government is anti-farmer," he said.
"Kokate has broken his own strings. When a handful of industrialists were waived off loans worth Rs 16 lakh crore, neither Kokate nor the government showed the courage to ask such a question, so why did the farmers have the courage to ask the question? Kokate had earlier insulted the farmers by saying that even beggars do not take a single rupee, we provide insurance to farmers for one rupee. This gentleman has a disease of constantly insulting farmers. He should apologize to the farmers of the state," added Sapkal.
