Maha: MNS activists booked for slapping security guard for not speaking in Marathi

Mumbai, Apr 2 (UNI) The city police has registered an FIR (first information report) against three members of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and a grocery app delivery boy for allegedly slapping a 40-year-old security guard of a Powai residential society for not speaking in Marathi, an official said here on Wednesday.

According to available details, on Monday evening at around 8:30 pm, a grocery delivery company’s delivery boy, Ajinkya, arrived at L&T Emerald Housing Society in Powai to deliver a parcel to a resident.

As per the FIR, a society guard asked Ajinkya in Hindi which flat he wanted the parcel deliver to. Ajinkya mentioned the flat number and the society guard accordingly made the entry in the register.

On his return after dropping the parcel, Ajinkya entered into a heated argument with the society guard over his refusal to speak in Marathi.

Ajinkya allegedly threatened the society guard and left, only to return at 9.30 pm with three others, the FIR stated.

The society guard was confronted by Ajinkya and three others — Vijay Nikam, Sanjay Mule and Mahesh Giram -- in the presence of the guard’s supervisor.

One of them introduced himself as an MNS party activist and asked the society guard why he didn’t speak Marathi and why he said “Marathi tel lene gaya”.

The man then allegedly slapped the society guard two to three times while his associates abused him. They also forced the society guard to apologise, the police complaint stated.

Later, the video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.

The society guard, identified as Bhavaniprasad Jha, is a native of Dabhanga in Bihar and works as a security guard at L&T Emerald Housing Society in Powai.
