Man caught for public drunkenness in Srinagar, Court sentences to 3 days community service

Srinagar, Feb 8 (UNI) In a first, an individual who was caught for public drunkenness in Srinagar was sentenced to three days community service by a Court.
The accused identified as Mohammad Shafi Najar, a resident of Srinagar, was found intoxicated and causing public nuisance in violation of section 355 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
After reviewing the case, the Court ruled that rather than imposing a traditional penalty, the offender must perform three-days community service of cleanliness and hygiene at public buildings, areas, spaces at Bhagat Barzulla. He is required to report his activities to the local Mohalla president and the concerned Station House Officer (SHO), who will then submit a compliance report to the court.
