Man held for molesting woman in bus days after she filed complaint

Mumbai April 18 (UNI) A man was arrested on Friday for allegedly molesting a 26-year-old woman in a moving Bombay Municipal Corporation-run BEST bus after she filed a complaint days after the incident, police said.

The incident took place on April 10 around 10 am when the woman was travelling from Prabhadevi to Kurne Chowk in Worli by a BEST bus. She alleged in a complaint filed with the police on April 16 that an unknown man standing behind her in the bus molested her in the moving bus.

The police formed a special team to investigate the incident. The team analysed CCTV footage from various locations where the accused boarded and exited the bus.

Crucial evidence came from the CCTV camera installed inside the BEST bus, which showed a man standing behind the woman. Upon reviewing the footage, the victim identified the man as the one who had molested her.

Further investigation led the police to examine footage from around 25 locations in the Worli area. They eventually traced the accused and arrested him.

The accused was identified as Irfan Hussein Shaikh (31), a resident of Kherwadi in Bandra.

Further probe is going on, police said.
