Narendra Modi Govt ensures no fertiliser shortages for farmers in 2024-25 Rabi Season: G. Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (UNI) The Narendra Modi-led government has ensured a seamless supply of fertilizers to farmers across the country for the 2024-25 Rabi season, stated Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Reddy said, since 2014, the government has allocated over Rs 12 lakh crore in fertilizer subsidies, making fertilizers available at significantly lower prices, irrespective of fluctuations in international market rates.

In the past, farmers faced long queues and frequent shortages, but under the Modi government, key reforms have successfully eliminated such difficulties. Various measures, including the introduction of neem-coated urea, the revival of closed fertilizer plants, the establishment of new manufacturing units, and capacity expansion at existing plants, have contributed to ensuring an uninterrupted supply.

Additionally, the implementation of a National Fertilizer Monitoring System has improved oversight, while the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system has curtailed black marketing, guaranteeing that farmers receive fertilizers at subsidized rates.

One of the significant initiatives in this direction has been the establishment of Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (RFCL) with an investment of Rs 6,338 crore. This project has played a crucial role in enhancing fertilizer availability. For the ongoing Rabi season, the government has ensured that all states have adequate stocks, with surplus reserves available to meet additional demand.

Ahead of each cropping season, the central government works in coordination with state governments to assess and fulfill fertilizer requirements. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare oversees this process, ensuring that fertilizers are allocated based on monthly demand projections provided by individual states.

The Central Fertilizer Department regulates the supply, while real-time monitoring is conducted through the Integrated Fertilizer Monitoring System (IFMS), an online tracking platform designed to prevent malpractices. Additionally, weekly video conferences between central and state agricultural officials enable continuous assessment and swift action to maintain timely distribution. Once the fertilizers reach the states, it is the responsibility of state governments to ensure their proper distribution at the district and mandal levels to meet the needs of farmers.

In Telangana, for instance, the central government has supplied an adequate quantity of fertilizers for the 2024-25 Rabi season. Against a total requirement of 9.80 lakh metric tons (LMT) of urea, 12.02 LMT have been supplied, with 10.34 LMT already sold to farmers and a stock of 1.68 LMT still available in the state.

Similarly, for DAP, 1.72 LMT have been supplied against a requirement of 1.50 LMT, with 1.46 LMT sold and 0.26 LMT in stock. MOP and NPKS fertilizers have also been provided in surplus, ensuring that farmers do not face any shortages.

The Narendra Modi government remains committed to supporting the agricultural sector by ensuring uninterrupted access to fertilizers. Through continuous monitoring, investment in production capacity, and the use of advanced tracking systems, the government has reaffirmed its dedication to empowering farmers and fostering self-sufficiency in Indian agriculture.
