National consultation meeting on Juvenile Justice Act held in Ranchi

Ranchi, May 18 (UNI) A one-day special consultation meeting on the Juvenile Justice Act and related laws was organised at the Judicial Academy, Jharkhand, Ranchi on Sunday. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi.

The objective of the meeting was to establish a dialogue among stakeholders to make the juvenile justice system more effective, sensitive, and just.

Addressing the gathering, Annapurna Devi said that a sensitive and empowered society is built when every child is given justice, protection, and respect.

The Juvenile Justice Act is a significant step towards protecting children's rights and providing them with rehabilitation and reintegration opportunities, she added.

The meeting was attended by judges of juvenile courts, principal magistrates, members of the Juvenile Justice Board and Child Welfare Committee, officials of special juvenile police units, and district child protection unit officials.

Justice Anubha Rawat Choudhary, Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, was present as a special guest and shared her thoughts on the sensitivity of the juvenile justice system and possibilities of improvement.

Rajesh Sharan Singh, Director of the Judicial Academy, Jharkhand, and Dr. Sandhya Mitra Barik, Joint Director of NIPCCD, New Delhi, also shared their views on strengthening the child protection system.

The meeting provided a platform for experts and officials to discuss challenges, reforms, and future directions for the juvenile justice system.

The consultation meeting proved to be a significant initiative towards protecting child rights and upgrading the judicial system.
