NCP(SP) criticises Mahayuti govt over Nagpur incidents

Mumbai, Mar 18 ( UNI) Sharad Gore, spokesperson of the Nationalist Congress Party - Sharad Pawar ( NCP-SP) on Tuesday blamed Maharashtra's ruling Mahayuti for the Nagpur violence, alleging that some of its leaders had been making provocative statements over the last few days.
"A rift is being created in society and an atmosphere is being created that is inciting riots.
Therefore, should the recent riots in Nagpur be called a government-sponsored riot?" asked Gore.
He said it was the government's job to maintain law and order. but some ministers and other leaders in the government were "inciting riots by making provocative statements" and the government chose to remain a spectator. "Therefore, there is a suspicion that these riots are government-sponsored," said Gore.
"The atmosphere of unrest in the state is the failure of the current government. Therefore, the leaders of the Mahayuti do not have the moral right to run the government. They should step down from the government and provide relief to the common people," Gore added.
violence broke out in Nagpur on Monday night following rumours that a holy book has been desecreated during a demonstration by right-wing groups seeking the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb in Khuldabad.
Police sources said on Tuesday that the situation is under control and no fresh incident of violence was reported. UNI SSP
