Urban Child Development Centre useful for proper nutrition of children in urban areas of Maha: minister

Mumbai, Mar 18 (UNI) To bring malnourished children in the urban areas into the mainstream category, the Suposhit Mumbai Mission and Urban Child Development Centres have been started in Anganwadis, asserted Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare on Tuesday.
Speaking on occasion of launching Colaba, Anganwadi number 51 Suposhit Mission and Urban Child Development Centre Scheme, she said that the Urban Child Development Centres will be very helpful in providing proper nutrition to pregnant mothers for the first 1,000 days of pregnancy.
On the lines of Gram Bal Vikas Kendra Yojana, the Suposhit Mumbai Abhiyan and Urban Child Development Centre Schemes are being implemented to bring all the malnourished children in the urban areas to normal category and also to reduce the malnutrition rate of children in Mumbai and Mumbai suburban districts, she informed.
Ms Tatkare said that through these centres in urban areas, guidance will be given to reduce obesity among children along with malnutrition.
Since the intellectual and physical development of every child takes place within a period of 1,000 days from the conception of a woman, efforts are being made through the department to increase the number of Anganwadis in proportion to the population in urban areas for proper nutrition of mothers and children during this period, she added.
