New ‘SNL’ skit parodies Trump in its milestone season 50, mocks executive orders and Pope joke

Los Angeles, May 4 (UNI) Parodying US President Donald Trump once more, ‘Saturday Night Live’ continued its milestone season 50 on May 3, with an episode that poked fun at Trump’s executive orders and his AI generated image of himself dressed as the new Pope.
The late-night comedy sketch saw ‘SNL’ actor James Austin Johnson returning as President Donald Trump, to mock his series of executive orders and wish to become Pope amid his first 100 days in office. The episode saw Quinta Brunson serve as host and Benson Boone as the musical guest.
“Your favourite president and perhaps your next Pope!” Johnson, 35, as Trump, said, reports People. “It's been 100 years since I became president ... excuse me, days. Wow, feels longer.”
Johnson went on to highlight his role in securing election victories, “mostly in Canada", and boasted about signing “147 executive orders — everything from banning paper straws to defunding PBS,” while appearing alongside Mikey Day, who portrayed the president’s deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller.
Day, 45, then presented Johnson with more executive orders for him to sign to reinstate Columbus Day, reduce interracial couples in TV commercials and pardon ‘Harry Potter’ author J.K. Rowling.
"We love Jackie,” said Johnson as Trump. “You know, she created a whole wizarding world, a wonderful place for overweight millennials to stake their entire identity well past the point of being cute. ‘I'm a Hufflepuff.’ No b****, you work at Staples!"
Marcello Hernandez then appeared as Secretary of State Marco Rubio — just in time to be mocked by Johnson, and the spoof later concluded with Johnson's Trump signing more executive orders, which included outlawing ghosts and making The New York Times connections game easier.
Later in the episode, during ‘SNL's Weekend Update’, anchor Colin Jost discussed Trump's AI-generated image of himself as the pope, which he posted in jest on Friday, May 2, nearly a week after attending the late Pope Francis' funeral.
"Who posts a photo of themselves dressed like a guy who died a week ago?" asked Jost, 42. "Trump was at the pope's funeral. That means he walked past an open casket and was like, 'Oh, we should do a Who Wore it Best?'”
The latest SNL sketch marked yet another entry in the show’s long-running tradition of parodying Donald Trump — one of its most iconic and enduring targets since 1988. The frequency of Trump impressions surged after his 2016 election win, and with his return to the political spotlight in a second term, the satirical focus has intensified once again.
