Congress welcomes initiatives in Manipur

Imphal, Mar 1 (UNI) Manipur Congress President K Meghachandra on Saturday welcomed the central government's decision to open the roads in Manipur from Mar 8 next.
Stating that it is a welcome step, the Congress leader asked why both the centre and the state governments ruled by BJP did not take any decision to open the roads for such a long time. He said for almost 21 months people of Manipur have been suffering.
Meghachandra said fencing works in ten kilometers were completed in the Manipur-Myanmar border ten years ago. He questioned the delay in fencing the international border. The steps taken up by the centre were welcome but everything should be done in a time-bound manner. The delay in border fencing has led to the infiltration of large numbers of Myanmarese to Manipur. The illegal immigrants are not managed by Assam Rifles or the centre, he added. The crisis in Manipur will continue until the influx of immigrants continues, he said.
