Ramchandra Chutia, Dr AK Pandey conferred Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award 2025

Itanagar, May 17 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) has announced that the prestigious Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award 2025 will be conferred on Ramchandra Chutia and Dr Ashok Kumar Pandey in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the literary landscape of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Lummer Dai Literary Award honours literary figures who have made significant contributions to the literary field. Since its inception in 2016, a total of 11 distinguished writers have received the award, including Kaling Borang (2016), Mamang Dai (2017), Tagang Taki (2019), and Jumsi Siram (2023).
The selection for the 2025 award was made by a panel comprising Er H Rokom Bado (Chairman), Er Banta Natung, and Gumpi Nguso.
Ramchandra Chutia, born in Dhakuakhana, Assam in 1952, has authored 29 books, including eight on socio-anthropological aspects of different tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. Writing in both Assamese and English, his literary works span poetry, novels, short stories, travelogues, and memoirs. He began his service in Arunachal Pradesh in 1971 as a primary school teacher at Sartam village (Tali circle in undivided Subansiri district) and retired in 2010 as principal of Govt Higher Secondary School, Doimukh. His four-decade-long teaching career in interior schools profoundly shaped his literary voice.
Dr Ashok Kumar Pandey, an Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce at Dera Natung Govt College, Itanagar, was born in Uttar Pradesh in 1967 and has been residing in Arunachal Pradesh since 1992. A versatile writer, he has published 11 books covering poetry, short stories, and drama, along with five academic works that are widely acclaimed in scholarly circles.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 1 next at Lummer Dai Bhawan, Tezpur, Assam, to mark the 85th birth anniversary of Late Lummer Dai, the literary icon of Arunachal Pradesh.
