Manipur: Two militants nabbed, 20 arms deposited in last 24 hrs

Imphal, Mar 3 (UNI) Two militants were nabbed while 20 arms were voluntarily laid down during the last 24 hours.
Manipur Police said on Monday that two active cadres of KCP (PWG) were nabbed from the hilltop of Ngariyan Hill, Imphal-East District. Two 9 mm pistols and other ammunition were recovered from them.
Police said an illegal bunker was found at Haraothel, Kangpokpi District, which was destroyed.
A total of 20 different types of weapons, various ammunition/munitions, and other miscellaneous items were voluntarily surrendered by the public to the following places in Imphal East, Bishnupur, Jiribam, and Imphal West Districts.
Manipur Governor AK Bhalla had asked all to surrender arms up to 4 pm on March 6, 2025. The first offer was given on Feb 20 with a week's time, which was extended again.
During this period, no punitive action will be taken against the individuals who voluntarily surrender weapons. However, any person found in possession of illegal or looted arms after the given deadline will face legal action as per law.
Further, the police and security forces would be taking up extensive operations after the said deadline, the governor had warned.
So far, the Arambai Tenggol, a cultural body that took up arms after May 3, 2023, laid down all its arms last Thursday.
