Arunachal Distts gear up for monsoon with robust preparedness measures

Itanagar, May 14 (UNI) The district administrations across Arunachal Pradesh have stepped up monsoon preparedness efforts ahead of the ensuing Southwest Monsoon, with a series of review meetings held in Likabali (Lower Siang), Basar (Leparada), and Yingkiong (Upper Siang) to assess readiness and strengthen disaster management mechanisms.
In Likabali, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of DDMA, Rujjum Rakshap chaired a high-level meeting with the administrative officers, departmental heads, and representatives from the Indian Army, ITBP, and BRTF.
Stressing that Lower Siang is one of the most disaster-prone districts, DC Rakshap called for meticulous planning, timely updating of contingency plans, and a unified approach among departments.
He directed the preparation of resource inventories and emphasized the need for a disaster management plan (DMP) that activates automatically during crises. District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Alokong Perme was tasked with coordinating efforts to ensure swift and adequate delivery of services.
A District Executive Committee meeting also reviewed damage reports from the 2024 monsoon, with recommendations for relief assistance as per SDRF guidelines.
In Basar, a monsoon preparedness meeting was chaired by Leparada DC Atul Tayeng, who urged departments to strengthen inter-agency coordination and submit updated resource inventories for inclusion in the India Disaster Resource Network (IDRN) portal.
DDMO T Pema emphasized the importance of early situation reporting, and monsoon and heatwave readiness through a presentation. Departments were instructed to report incidents promptly to DDMA and maintain readiness to respond to any emergencies.
In Upper Siang, a comprehensive preparedness meeting was held under the chairmanship of DC Talo Jerang at Yingkiong. Representatives from all key departments attended the meeting.
The meeting saw the official launch of the District Disaster Management Plan 2025–26, aimed at enhancing proactive disaster management. The DC stressed the activation of the Incident Response System (IRS) and readiness of rescue teams, health services, and emergency operations.
Departments were directed to identify vulnerable zones, conduct joint inspections, and implement early warning systems. Community-level mock drills and awareness drives were also proposed to ensure grassroots preparedness.
The need for real-time information sharing and quick response protocols among departments was highlighted. As a part of the action plan, departments were instructed to submit departmental monsoon preparedness plans by May 20, with a 24x7 Emergency Operation Centre to be activated for real-time coordination and response.
