Mamata calls up wife of freed BSF Jawan, expresses happiness

Kolkata, May 14 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday morning dialed the freed BSF Jawan, Purnam Kumar Shaw's wife Rajani Shaw and greeted her after news arrived that the 182nd Battalion jawan arrived at the Indian border from Atari post around 1030 hours.

Rajani Shaw, now pregnant with her second child, told media that her husband had called her up around 1230 hours and said he would be in Rishra home, Hooghly district, after having her medical tests. She said her husband would again call her.

"My husband has been in the service of the nation for the past 15 years. If needed, he would go back to the border to safeguard the nation," Rajani said. She praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to "return her sindoor -- her husband sahi selamat (in good form)".

"I would request the Prime Minister to be tough with terrorists and safeguard the sindoor of the women of the country," Rajani said with tears rolled down her face in joy.

Purnam Kumar Shaw returns to the country after 22 days. He was taken away by Pakistani Rangers after he mistakenly crossed the border at Ferozepur in Punjab.

The Bengal CM said she was happy to hear the news of the return of the BSF Jawan. "I had all along been in touch with his family and spoke thrice with his wife here at Rishra, Hugli. Today too I called her up. All the very best wishes for my brother-like jawan, his entire family, including his wife Rajni Shaw," Banerjee wrote on her X handle.

The Jawan's father told media that he got a phone call around 8 30 am from BSF headquarters in New Delhi that his son would be freed soon.

"My son would again go to the border and serve the country. We are not scared at all. We suffered anxiety in the past 22 days, but I was sure the government and local administration would make all necessary arrangements for the safe return of my son," said the septuagenarian father.
