TMC to conduct ‘Nationalist Rallies’ to counter BJP’s ‘Tiranga Yatra’.

Kolkata, May 14 (UNI) In a bid to counter the BJP’s ‘Tiranga Yatra’ — a nationwide campaign launched by the saffron party to celebrate the Indian Army’s successes in the recent ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan — the Trinamool Congress has announced plans to hold nationalist rallies across West Bengal on May 17 and 18, between 3 PM and 5 PM.

While party sources describe the initiative as a tribute to martyred soldiers and their families, political observers see it as a calculated move by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, timed just a day after the BJP’s May 16 ‘Tiranga Yatra’, to counter the saffron party’s attempt to gain political mileage from its campaign.

“Our party has announced rallies on Saturday and Sunday from 3 - 5 pm in every block and ward (urban areas) to pay our respects to the jawans and extend condolences towards the families of those brave-hearts who laid down their lives for the motherland,” the chief minister said in a press conference on Wednesday.

“We don't see this matter politically as several others. I didn't make any comments nor did our party members or state government. It is our duty to pay our respects to the martyrs who laid down their lives for our country and the armed forces who fought for us...," she added.

Party sources said the nationalist rallies will be held across the state with dignity and enthusiasm. Trinamool’s state president Subrata Bakshi has issued a written directive to all district, city, block, and ward committees, urging them to ensure the success of the programme.

The rallies are intended to showcase love for the nation, pay tribute to the martyrs, and uphold India’s secular ideals. They will feature patriotic songs, banners, national flags, slogans, and cultural performances to evoke a spirit of nationalism. Committees have also been instructed to involve families of martyrs in the events wherever possible.

Meanwhile, the Bengal BJP is set to hold a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Kolkata on Friday (May 16), while the party’s women’s wing will take to the streets to highlight the spirit of ‘Operation Sindoor’, with a focus on showcasing the role of “women power” in the armed forces.

“Kolkata will be the starting point of our Tiranga Yatra. Several districts are already prepared,” said Bengal BJP president and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar, adding, “Even if the police try to stop us, they won’t succeed. They have no authority to block a rally carrying the national flag.”
BJP had earlier announced the launch of the 11-day pan-India outreach campaign to honour the courage and sacrifice of the armed forces. UNI XC SSP
