Odisha Labour Minister directs officials to set up help desks for issuing labour cards

Bhubaneswar, May 17 (UNI) Odisha Labour Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia has directed departmental officials to set up help desks for labourers/workers, register their names, and issue labour cards.
Khuntia issued the directive during a surprise visit to the Nayapalli Labour Haat, where he interacted with labourers and workers.
The main objective of the Minister's field visit was to assess whether various welfare schemes implemented by the Labour Department are reaching the intended beneficiaries.
Khuntia inquired in detail about the workers' problems and found that many of them still do not possess labour cards.
He emphasized that without registration, workers are deprived of financial benefits such as education assistance, marriage assistance, maternity assistance, death assistance, and funeral assistance.
The Minister instructed all labour officers to accept applications promptly, take immediate action, listen to workers' grievances, and resolve them without delay.
Later, he visited the Multipurpose Workers' Shelter in Dumduma, where he received several constructive suggestions from workers and directed officials to act on them immediately.
