Agartala, Feb 27 (UNI) The opposition Congress demanded an independent probe into the allegations of corruption in passing MBBS courses from society run Tripura Medical College (TMC) affiliated under Tripura Central University.
Allegedly, a section of faculties and officials of TMC and Tripura University manipulated the exam results to collect a large sum of money. The racket reportedly runs into the extent of ensuring the successful completion of MBBS exams, which triggered a serious concern.
Referring to various media reports and inputs from TMC, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and health minister of first BJP government in Tripura alleged that students are being asked to pay significant amounts to secure passing marks and said, “The integrity of the academic system is being compromised.”
According to report, a few officials and faculty members were involved in the financial malpractice, which has been going on for some time. Many students, fearing repercussions, have reportedly complied with these demands, while others have raised complaints with authorities.
A student, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "We are being forced to pay to pass exams. This is unfair and goes against the principles of education. Authorities must take strict action against those responsible."
However, police sources said that TMC administration was also aware of these allegations and are closely monitoring the situation. And, recently the Crime branch of Tripura police has launched an inquiry into the allegations.
Despite several attempts, neither TMC nor Tripura university administration could be reached.
