Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh ink major agreement on Tapi Mega Recharge Project

Bhopal, May 10 (UNI) A historic agreement was signed between the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh regarding the Tapi Mega Recharge Project on Saturday.
This agreement worth about Rs 19,244 crore will provide great benefits to the salt pan belt in Vidarbha and North Maharashtra, informed Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Bhopal on today.
A meeting of the Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh Inter-State Control Board regarding irrigation and hydropower projects was held in Bhopal today.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Water Resources Ministers of both states Girish Mahajan, Tulsiram Silawat, Kunwar Vijay Shah and officials of both states were present in this meeting. After this meeting, Chief Minister Fadnavis informed the journalists about this.
Chief Minister Fadnavis said that today is a historic day for Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
"We had already decided on the Tapti Mega Recharge Project. Today, both the states agreed on it and an MoU was signed for it. Earlier, this meeting was held in 2000, then this meeting was held in 2025."

However, both the states were in touch with each other regarding this project. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government came to power at the Center, he asked to speed up the inter-state water agreements and we have accelerated it since 2016. The Tapi Mega Recharge is a wonder of the world, he said.
Due to this project, Maharashtra will get irrigation benefit on 2,34,706 hectares, while Madhya Pradesh will get irrigation benefit on 1,23,082 hectares.
The project will also be a major benefit to areas where there is a saline belt in Maharashtra and due to this there are problems of drinking water and irrigation.
This will provide great relief in the belt of Jalgaon, Akola, Amravati, Buldhana. There will be a big revolution in the lives of farmers and the economy will get a big boost.

Both the Chief Ministers will again request the Central Government to accept this as a central scheme, added Fadnavis.
