Pakistan continues unprovoked fire along LoC in J&K

Srinagar, May 8 (UNI) A Day after sharp escalation in cross border shelling that left 12 civilians and a soldier dead, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations at many places along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

The ceasefire violations during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday were reported in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri in Kashmir and Akhnoor in Jammu, Army said.

"During the night of 07-08 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked fire using small arms and artillery guns across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor areas in J&K", Army said
The Indian Army responded proportionately, it added.

There was, however, no report of any casualties during the cross border shelling.
The border escalation took place on Wednesday moments after India launched strikes on several terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in wake of the Pahalgam massacre that left 25 tourists and a local dead.
On Wednesday, 13 people including four children were killed and dozens injured in Poonch sector of Jammu region in the cross border shelling. Over a dozen civilians were also injured in Pakistani shelling in the Uri sector while intense shelling damaged nearly 50 homes in Kashmir.
The armies of the two countries have been exchanging fire since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack but there were no reports of casualties for the past fortnight.
