Kashmir heatwave: Kokernag records hottest April day ever, Srinagar logs second highest

Srinagar, Apr 30 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir witnessed an extraordinary rise in temperatures on Wednesday, with Kokarnag in south Kashmir setting a new all-time record for the highest maximum temperature ever recorded in April.



The summer capital Srinagar sizzled at 30.9°C, marking the second-highest maximum temperature ever recorded in the city during April.



According to the Meteorological Department, Kokarrnag in Anantnag district recorded a maximum temperature of 29.1°C, surpassing the previous April record of 28.3°C, which was set on April 30, 2007.



MeT said Srinagar recorded a 30.9°C day temperature ,making it the second-highest maximum temperature ever recorded in the summer capital during April.



The all-time highest temperature in Srinagar for the month remains 31.1°C, recorded on April 20, 1946, MeT said.



Qazigund and Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded day temperatures of 30.9 °C and 27 °C respectively.



The ski resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded 22.2 °C.



The MeT on Wednesday predicted generally hot and dry weather with heat wave at isolated places till May 1.



The MeT said from May 1 to May 5, the Union Territory is likely to witness brief showers at isolated to scattered places, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds.

The weather is expected to settle from May 6 to 8, with a generally dry spell forecast



However, May 9 and 10 may bring a change again, as there is a possibility of light rain and thunder in some parts of the Union Territory.
