Jammu, May 17 (UNI) Jammu Police have arrested two armed criminals carrying handguns in Nowabad area. The police said on Saturday that they apprehended two wanted criminals and recovered two illegal weapons (pistol & revolver) along with four live rounds from their possession.
They said that a special naka was laid near T-point on Fourth Tawi Bridge and two persons riding a bike towards T-point were intercepted for checking.
On seeing the police, they tried to run away but were overpowered by police and arrested.
The police said on checking, one pistol and a revolver along with four live rounds were recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Sumit Verma alias Vansh of village Shergarh and Goshu Kumar alias Sahil alias Gudda of village Mehmudpur, both from Jammu.
Sumit Verma turned out to be a wanted criminal against whom several FIRs have been registered in Bishnah, Gandhi Nagar and Bari Brahmana police stations.
"They had kept illegal firearms with them to eliminate a member of a rival group," said police.
They said the motorbike they were riding on was also seized. Police have registered a case and started investigation.
