3 killed, 5 injured in heavy firing along J&K LoC; schools shut in several districts

Jammu/Srinagar, May 7 (UNI) At least three people, including a forest officer, were killed and five civilians were injured after Pakistan resorted to heavy firing during Wednesday night along the Line of Control in J&K.

While three civilians, including a forest officer, were killed in the Poonch sector of Jammu, five civilians were injured in the Uri sector of Baramulla, officails said.

The three killed in Poonch were identified as Mohammad Adil, Saleem Hussain and Ruby Kour.

Meanwhile, Army sources said that during the night of May 6-7, Pakistan Army resorted to arbitrary firing, including artillery shelling, from posts across the Line of Control and International Border opposite Jammu and Kashmir.

“Three civilians lost their lives in indiscriminate firing while the Indian Army responding in a proportionate manner,” they said.
The office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu posted on X, “in view of the prevailing situation all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch will remain closed today (Wednesday)”.

In Kashmir heavy shelling was reported from Baramulla and Kupwara districts. At least five civilians were injured in the Pakistani firing in the Uri sector.
Locals said several houses were damaged in the intense shelling which began at 11 pm.
The authorities have also closed schools in border districts of Kupwara, Baramulla and Gurez valley of Bandipora.

In the backdrop of Pahalgam attack, India during early hours of Wednesday struck inside Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and Pakistan at various places against terror sites.

The Indian armed forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor', hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed, a Defence Ministry statement said.
