Lucknow, Mar 10 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday alleged that the poor and the weaker sections are facing injustice in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
In a statement issued here Akhilesh said, "From the police to the bullies and goons, everyone is torturing the poor. In Lucknow, the police thrashed an e-rickshaw driver during which he fainted. Similarly, in Chitrakoot, a rickshaw taken on loan by a driver was confiscated by a corrupt officer and a bribe of Rs 50,000 was demanded from him. The news of the rickshaw driver committing suicide after not being able to meet the demand is heart-wrenching."
He said that under the BJP government, news of suicide by the poor comes every day from somewhere in the state. "Due to lack of justice, farmers are forced to commit suicide, while poor people are setting themselves on fire. In UP, such incidents often come to light in front of the Vidhan Sabha and near the Chief Minister's residence," he said.
