Centre should conduct caste census with transparency, honesty: Akhilesh

Lucknow, May 2 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said that the socialists have fought a very long battle demanding caste census which is the first important step towards social justice.
In a press conference organised at the SP state headquarters, Akhilesh said, "We all, 90 per cent of the population of the PDA family, want caste census. Caste census is the first important step towards social justice. The basic spirit of the Constitution made by Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar is that all castes should get rights and respect according to their population."
He said, "We have reached here after a very long fight. The fight ahead is also very long. Further, there will be a demand for reservation in the private sector and institutions. The central government should conduct the caste census with complete transparency and honesty so that all the upper castes come forward."
