2 killed as rain, storm affect life in several UP districts

Lucknow, May 2 (UNI) Two persons died and many others were injured in rain-related accidents in various parts of western Uttar Pradesh on Friday, official sources said, adding hundreds of acres of crops were damaged due to dust storm and overnight rain in the region.
Life was partially affected due to rain accompanied by strong winds in many parts of of western Uttar Pradesh, official sources said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials of the districts affected by storm, rain and hailstorm to carry out relief work with full readiness. He said officials should personally visit the area and conduct a survey and keep an eye on the relief work.
He said, "In case of loss of life or animal due to disaster like lightning, storm and rain, distribute relief amount to the affected people immediately. The injured should be given proper treatment," he said.
Yogi said the officials should conduct a survey and assess the crop loss and send the report to the government, so that further action could be taken. "In case of water logging, arrangements for drainage should be made on priority," he said.
Sources said the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for at least 20 districts in the state as a thick cover of clouds has been witnessed in Agra, Mathura, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad and Firozabad since Friday morning.
Sources said that rain accompanied by dust storm started in many areas in the morning. "Two MGNREGA workers died on the spot in Kutakpur village after being struck by lightning in Nasirpur area of Firozabad, while one worker was injured, who has been sent to the hospital.
In Mathura, many areas were waterlogged, due to which people going to school and office in the morning had to face problems. Water logging has been reported in many areas of Agra. Due to rain, the temperature dropped substantially and people got relief from the heat.
