Chhattisgarh: Two teenagers killed, 5 injured in lightning strike in Sukma

Sukma, May 13 (UNI) Two teenagers were killed and five others were seriously injured after lightning struck a forested area in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when around 100 villagers from Pandarupara, Renganpara, Lekhanpara and Patelpara went to the forest in Sirsattee village under Kerlapal police station for a traditional hunt after celebrating a local festival.
As the weather suddenly changed, strong winds and light rain started, and some villagers took shelter under a tree. At that moment, lightning struck, resulting in the deaths of Padami Bhima and Padami Monu (both aged 14) on the spot, while five others were injured.
The deceased teenagers were cousins.
The injured included Neelesh Podiyami (33), Padami Sukka (28), Padami Erra (6), Podiyami Dulla (22), and Padami Joga (21).

It took around three to four hours to bring the injured from the forest to the village using stretchers. After initial treatment, they were taken to Kerlapal hospital and later referred to the district hospital.

According to doctors, all the injured are out of danger and are receiving treatment.
The incident has caused a wave of grief in the area.
