Widespread rainfall in Himachal; Shillaroo receives highest at 43.6 mm

Shimla, May 10 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh witnessed widespread light to moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours, with several mid and high hill regions recording significant precipitation.

According to the Meteorological Centre Shimla, Shillaroo in Shimla district recorded the highest rainfall at 43.6 mm, followed by Jubberhatti with 34.5 mm and Kataula in Mandi district with 28.3 mm.

Other prominent rainfall figures include Rajgarh (27 mm), Jatton Barrage (22 mm), Mandi (21.2 mm), Sarahan (19.5 mm), Dadahu (19 mm), and Narkanda (16 mm). Shimla town received 12.4 mm of rainfall, while Chopal recorded 10 mm.

The rainfall was accompanied by thunderstorms in Shimla, Jubberhatti, Sundernagar, and Murari Devi. However, no hailstorms or gusty winds were reported during this period

The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Kukumseri in Lahaul-Spiti at 4.8°C, while the highest maximum temperature of 36.0°C was noted at Paonta Sahib.

The IMD has attributed the rainfall activity to active Western Disturbances and cyclonic circulations over north Pakistan and northeast Rajasthan. These systems have triggered convective activity, especially in the mid and higher reaches of the state.

The forecast indicates that light to moderate rainfall will continue over many parts of the state on May 10. From May 11 to May 12, rainfall will likely reduce, becoming light and confined to isolated places over the mid and high hills. A further decline is expected between May 13 and May 16, with only isolated showers predicted.

The IMD has advised residents in affected regions to stay indoors during thunderstorms and follow safety guidelines. The weather department also ruled out any heat wave or hailstorm activity during this period.
