Chennai, Feb 25 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) workers
staged a black flag demonstration on the eve of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's
visit to Coimbatore, on Tuesday evening.
The black flag protest was led by TNCC President and Congress Legislature Party
Leader K Selvaperunthagai, in which the party workers shouted slogans "Go back
Amit Shah".
The agitation, held near the Gandhi Park junction in Coimbatore, was to condemn
Mr Amit Shah's for allegedly insulting Architect of Indian Constitution B R Amdedkar
in Parliament, and for making critical remarks against former Prime Ministers Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru and Ms Indira Gandhi and for the BJP-led Government's audacious
stand not to release funds for Tamil Nadu under SSA for the education sector.
The agitation was also to condemn the Centre's insistence coercing the State to
accept the NEP-2020 for implementing the Trilingual policy, as against the long
followed 2-language formula and ignoring TN in the Union Budget.
More than 200 Congress workers participated in the demonstration after which they
dispersed.
Meanwhile, various political parties and political organisations had also decided to
stage a black flag protest during Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Coimbatore tomorrow
to take part in Mahashivarathri celebrations at the Isha Yoga Foundation.
The joint decision was taken by the representatives of CPI(M), CPI, Dravidar Kazhagam,
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Aathi Thamizhar Peravai, Dravida Tamilar Katchi, Tamil
Nadu Dravidar Suyamariyathai Kazhagam, Makkal Adhikaram, May 17 Movement,
