High alert issued over cyber threats disguised as Indo-Pak conflict news

Hyderabad, May 10 (UNI) In light of rising Indo-Pak tensions, the Hyderabad City Police Cyber Crime Wing has issued a high alert warning the public about a surge in cyber-attacks.
State-sponsored threat groups are exploiting the situation by spreading malware through phishing links, fake news, and malicious files disguised as conflict-related updates.
Deceptive videos, images, .exe and .apk files are being circulated via WhatsApp, emails, and social media platforms. Files titled like “Dance of the Hillary,” “Army_Job_Application_Form.pdf,” and “live war updates app” may contain spyware, ransomware, or phishing links. Once downloaded, these can compromise devices, steal personal data, and even hack bank or social media accounts.
The public is strongly advised not to open or forward unknown files or links, avoid installing APKs from untrusted sources, and report suspicious groups or messages.
WhatsApp users should disable auto-download, enable two-step verification, and avoid sharing OTPs. Email users should beware of urgent conflict-related messages from unknown senders and avoid clicking suspicious links or attachments.
Only follow updates from verified news channels and official government handles. If anyone falls victim to such scams, they are urged to report immediately via the helpline 1930 or visit www.cybercrime.gov.in.
The police have urged all citizens to remain vigilant and not contribute to the spread of misinformation during this sensitive period, a police statement said on Saturday.
