Chandrasekhar Reddy takes oath as Telangana chief information commissioner

Hyderabad, May 9 (UNI) Dr G Chandrasekhar Reddy, a retired Indian Forest Service officer, was sworn in as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the Telangana State Right to Information Act Commission on Friday.

The oath of office was administered by Governor Jishnu Dev Sharma during a special ceremony held at Raj Bhavan Darbar Hall.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including state ministers Jupally Krishna Rao, Legislative Council chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, deputy chairman Banda Prakash, and State Farmers Commission chairman Kodanda Reddy.

Notable officials present included chief secretary Ramakrishna Rao, DGP Jitender, state election Commission Commissioner Rani Kumidini, Vigilance Commissioner M G Gopal, and Senior IAS officers such as Jayesh Ranjan and Mahesh Dutt Ekka.

Dr Chandrasekhar Reddy's appointment comes at a critical time, as the Telangana Information Commission was lying defunct for over two years, leading to a backlog of over 16,000 RTI appeals and complaints.

His leadership is expected to address these challenges and restore the commission's functionality.

Dr Reddy will serve a tenure of three years or until the age of 65, whichever is earlier. His extensive experience in environmental conservation and public administration positions him well to lead the commission effectively, an official statement said.
