Mumbai, Apr 11 (UNI) Railway Minister Ashwini Kumar Vaishnaw on Friday announced that the Railways would introduce 238 new Air-Conditioned suburban trains, designed specifically to cater to the needs of Mumbai’s bustling population.
The Railway Minister made the announcement at a press conference in Mumbai on Friday, alongside Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The new Air-Conditioned suburban trains are expected to revolutionise daily travel for millions of Mumbai's commuters.
Designed with passenger comfort in mind, these trains promise a more reliable and enjoyable travel experience. The Minister emphasised that the upgrades will go a long way in addressing the challenges of overcrowding and discomfort that many face on the city’s suburban trains.
The Railway Minister also approved a smart card -‘Mumbai One’ smart card. which can be used to avail all public transport in the city.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the backend work and digital architecture of the card would be done within a month. “Once we have the system architecture in place, we will roll out the Mumbai One card for all Mumbaikars. It will indeed be a game-changer for urban mobility,” he said.
Chief Minister Fadnavis said that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has given the "green signal to this ambitious initiative, and we are ready to roll out the card".
