Oppn chief whip Ravikumar denies remarks against CS

Bengaluru, July 3 (UNI) N Ravikumar, Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, today firmly denied making any derogatory remarks against the state's Chief Secretary Dr Shalini Rajneesh, stating that recent reports suggesting otherwise were "baseless, misleading, and defamatory".
In a statement released to the media, Ravikumar expressed shock over claims circulating in sections of print, visual, and social media, alleging that he had spoken in a disrespectful manner about the Chief Secretary.
"I have not made any derogatory statement against the Honourable Chief Secretary of the government," he clarified. "It has shocked me that certain media platforms are propagating such misinformation."
Ravikumar said he had been in Hyderabad for official work over the last three days and was not present in Bengaluru during the period when the alleged comments were attributed to him.
He added that on June 30, he, along with Leader of Opposition in the Council Chaluvarayaswamy and other Dalit leaders, had staged a protest in front of the Gandhi statue near Vidhana Soudha. The demonstration was to oppose the Forest Department's move to reclaim agricultural land in Kadugodi, Mahadevapura, which Dalit families had reportedly been cultivating for several years.
Ravikumar stated that attempts to meet both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Chief Secretary to present the community’s concerns were unsuccessful. "Apart from stating that the Chief Secretary was busy, I did not utter a single derogatory word," he said.
He further clarified that he did not address the media during the protest and made no speech targeting any government official. "The question of making derogatory statements against the Chief Secretary simply does not arise," he said.
Calling the reports defamatory, Ravikumar urged the media to exercise responsibility and verify facts before broadcasting or publishing such allegations.
