Police deliberately stopped me from going to Eidgah: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Mar 31 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the police of deliberately stopping him for about half an hour from going to Eidgah in the state capital Lucknow.
On the occasion of Eid, Akhilesh reached the Eidgah in Aishbagh and wished the members of the Muslim community. On this occasion, he expressed his objection to the heavy barricading on the roads leading to the Eidgah in Aishbagh.
He said, "I have been coming to the Eidgah continuously for a long time on the occasion of Eid. Today, the police deliberately stopped me, kept me there for half an hour. They let me go with great difficulty, and that too, only one vehicle. No officer had any answer to the reason for stopping me."
The SP chief said, "After all, what should this be considered? Should we consider it a dictatorship or emergency? Or should it be understood that the government wants to put pressure and scare people, so that no one can participate in the festivals and programmes of other religions."
He said, “I have been coming to the Eidgah on the occasion of Eid for a very long time. Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) brought me here for the first time. I have been coming here continuously since then. But we have never seen such barricading. Such barricading was done so that people could not celebrate their festivals. They could not celebrate the traditions and beliefs of their religion."
Akhilesh said that today the biggest threat is to the Constitution. "The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is not running the country as per the Constitution. Our country is very big. We have a mixed culture and have been living together for centuries. We are all connected through food, clothing, dialect, and language. We all wish that our country should progress and move forward with a mixed culture. All people should move forward with mutual unity, brotherhood, and harmony," he said.
In response to a question, he said, "The BJP people may not know the cow better than us. The BJP people who are putting up posters and who are debating on channels should work for the protection of the cow. They should also work for the protection, promotion, and growth of the cow."
The SP Chief claimed that the BJP people do not count how many cows and bulls there are. "They don't even tell where the budget is being spent. They don't even tell the number of cows dying every month. The BJP government should tell us how many cows are dying every month. The BJP starts all these debates to divert attention from basic questions. The BJP doesn't want discussions on issues like rising inflation, unemployment, doubling the income of farmers, employment, and investment. The BJP government wants to hide the corruption that has reached its peak," he said.
He went to the Eidgah of Imam Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali and wished him Eid Mubarak. Then he reached the Teelewali Masjid after the residence of former city President Mujibur Rahman Bablu, and there he wished everyone Eid Mubarak.
