Srinagar, Apr 5 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday organised an awareness programmes on new criminal laws in Sopore sub-district.
The programmes were held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Sopore and Government Higher Secondary School Dangiwacha Rafiabad.
The programmes focused on educating students about the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, which replaced the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act, respectively.
The programmes are designed for students, particularly those in higher secondary schools, to educate them about the new laws and their implications, a police statement said.
It said the objective of holding these events was to create awareness about the rights and responsibilities of citizens under the updated legal framework, promoting a safer and more just society.
Police said the awareness programs are expected to empower students with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities, contributing to a more informed and responsible citizenry.
“By educating the youth about the new criminal laws, the Sopore Police aim to promote a safer and more just society,” the statement said
