Rohit Pawar commeds Manohar Parrikar for acquisition of S-400

Pune, May 10 (UNI) NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar on Saturday credited former Defence Minister late Manohar Parrikar for acquisition of S-400 missile system for the country's defence, which proved to be a game-changer during skirmishes on the border with Pakistan.
In a post on social media X, he said that the S-400 missile defence system, which means 'Sudarshan Chakra' given to India by Russia, thwarted Pakistan's devious designs and also protected Indian soldiers and military installations.
He said last (Friday) night, Pakistan carried out drone attacks at many places in the country, but Indian army shot down all the drones and also ballistic missiles with the help of S-400, the most advanced air defence system.
As a result, the S-400 missile defence system is being discussed everywhere, he said.
"The late Manohar Parrikar Saheb played an important role and was vision behind the inclusion of the S-400, which thwarted Pakistan’s nefarious intentions, in our government’s system," he said.
Very few countries in the world have such a system, he noted and said that India acquired this system from Russia despite opposition from US after the start of the Ukraine war.
Pawar further said that the US had requested India not to take this system from Russia after the Ukraine war started.
Parrikar, himself an engineer, concluded many important agreements like the S-400 during his tenure as Defence Minister from 2014 to 2017, keeping in mind the country's future needs.
His vision will always be remembered, added Pawar.
