Chandigarh, May 9 (UNI) The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Punjab neutralized a drug trafficker after a brief encounter in Punjab's Jagraon.
DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav said here on Friday that the police acted on a tip-off. An ANTF team intercepted smugglers Raju and his aide. Raju opened fire at police teams. In retaliation Raju was critically injured and was later declared dead at Civil Hospital, Jagraon, police said. His accomplice managed to flee.
Yadav said the police recovered 2 kg heroin worth Rs 14 crore in the international market, Rs 15 lakh drug money and one illegal weapon from them.
The DGP said an FIR is registered at Jagraon police station. Further probe is on to dismantle the full network. Raju is said to be a habitual offender with 19 FIRs, including cases under Arms Act & NDPS Act.
