South Western Railway allows religious symbols at recruitment exam centres

Hubballi, Apr 28 (UNI) Candidates wearing metallic religious symbols, bangles, ornaments, mangal sutra, bracelets and similar items will be allowed inside the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination halls after proper frisking, the South Western Railway (SWR) clarified on Monday.
A suitable endorsement will be made on the candidates’ call letters, and invigilators will be instructed to remain extra vigilant, SWR said in a statement issued here, referring to a directive from the Railway Board.
The clarification comes following widespread media coverage and concerns over restrictions at RRB examination centres and their potential impact on religious sentiments.
The SWR said that while examinations conducted by RRBs involve certain security stipulations leading to restrictions on items candidates can carry, modifications have now been made to the instructions to ensure no religious sentiments are hurt.
According to the revised guidelines, banned items such as mobile phones, pagers, watches, earphones, Bluetooth-enabled devices, microphones, health bands, calculators, books, writing materials, belts, handbags, caps, purses, cameras, water bottles, and food items will not be permitted inside the test centres.
Only the e-Call letter will be allowed, and pens provided at the centres. Candidates have been asked not to apply henna on their hands or feet as it could obstruct biometric verification, the statement added. UNI BDN SSP
