Southwest Monsoon advances into parts of South Bay of Bengal, Andaman sea: Met

Amaravati, May 13 (UNI) The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into parts of the south Bay of Bengal, the south Andaman Sea, the Nicobar Islands, and parts of the north Andaman Sea as on Tuesday, according to the Meteorological Centre.
The Centre stated that conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon into additional areas over the south Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin region, more parts of the south Bay of Bengal, the entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the remaining parts of the Andaman Sea, and parts of the central Bay of Bengal during the next three to four days.
A trough extends from a cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar to south Odisha across Chhattisgarh at an altitude of 0.9 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and Rayalaseema during the next three days.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 60 kmph are likely at isolated places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema during the next five days.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also likely to occur at many places or a few places in these regions over the next seven days.
Rainfall occurred at one or two places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and at a few places in Rayalaseema during the last 24 hours.
The highest maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius was recorded at Jangamaheswarapuram in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, the report added.
