Telangana: Record number of 64 Maoists surrender before police in Kothagudem

Kothagudem (Telangana), Mar 15 (UNI) At least 64 Maoists, including 16 females, from various border villages in Sukma and Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, surrendered before the police here on Saturday to lead a peaceful life with their family members.
This would be the first time that such a huge number of Maoists surrendered at a time before the police in the state.
Talking to reporters here, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Multi Zone-I, S Chandrashekhar Reddy said 181 Maoists of different ranks had surrendered before the Telangana police from January 2024 till date.
Of the 64 Maoists surrendered today, 10 party members, nine Revolutionary People’s Committee (RPC) members, 19 RPC militia, 11 RPC Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (DAKMS)/KMS members, six RPC CNM members and eight RPC GRD members decided to leave the path of Naxalism and lead a peaceful life with their family members, he said.
Madakam Jimme, area committee member, agriculture team of South Bastar divisional committee was among the surrendered Maoists, Reddy said that an amount of Rs.16 lakh was disbursed to the surrendered naxals ( @ Rs 25,000 each).
The naxals surrendered due to the measures being taken up for the welfare of surrendered Maoists as well as development and welfare activities for tribals under “Operation Cheyutha” by Kothagudem district police, CRPF 81 Bn and 141 Bn, the IGP said.
Attracted by the rehabilitation offered by the Telangana government, various cadres of Maoists were giving up arms and surrendering before the police, he said the police would continue to reach out to the villagers with development works and by organising sports events for tribal youth.
There were 100 Maoists from Telangana operating in Chhattisgarh, Odisha and other States. Of the 19 members in the CPI (Maoist) Party Central Committee, 11 members were from Telangana, Reddy added.
Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju and Bhadrachalam ASP Vikrant Kumar Singh, CRPF Commandant Rithesh Thakur, Deputy Commandant Preetha, Additional Commandant Rajesh Dongra and others were present.
