Telangana : Three held for selling fake skincare products online

Hyderabad, Apr 22 (UNI) Police have arrested three individuals from Delhi in connection with a counterfeit skincare product racket involving trademark infringement and online fraud.
Police seized 80 counterfeit soap bars of the victim's brand, 20 fake skincare soap bars, one mobile phone and one laptop from their possession.
Based on a complaint filed by a Hyderabad-based doctor representing the victim company, police arrested Nikhil (26), Mohit Sharma (25), and Sonu Kumar (26) for allegedly manufacturing and selling fake skincare and haircare products under a registered brand name through various e-commerce platforms, a police statement said on Tuesday.
The complainant revealed that the company, known for its skin and hair care products, discovered that one of its soap products was being white-labeled and sold unauthorizedly by third-party sellers. A total of 19 fake listings were found online, misleading customers and causing significant reputational and financial damage to the company.
Police registered a case under Sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act-2008, Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act.
The accused, who were running an e-commerce business in Delhi, colluded to produce counterfeit soaps resembling the original brand’s products.
They replicated the packaging, colour, quantity, and design to mimic the genuine items. With the help of two absconding accomplices – Dinesh Negi and Pankaj – they manufactured and listed the fake products online, targeting high-demand items like the victim company's skincare soaps.
According to the police, the accused were part of an organized group seeking to deceive customers and illegally profit from the brand’s popularity. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the absconding suspects and dismantle the counterfeit network.
Authorities have advised consumers to exercise caution while purchasing branded products online and to report any suspicious listings to prevent falling victim to counterfeit goods.
